USC Recruiting | OL recruit Christian Westerman to visit USC campus Friday
Talented Hamilton High School offensive lineman Christian Westerman will be coming to the USC campus on Friday, Jan. 14, for an official visit.
The 6-foot-5, 295-lb. Westerman originally indicated that he would attend Texas, but has wavered on his commitment to the Longhorns program due to uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff.
"My situation with Texas is that I don't know who my offensive line coach is going to be right now,"
Westerman said (via ESPN). "That is the person that you're going to spend most of your time with in college and it needs to be a strong relationship. I feel like I have the right to check some things out until they fill that coaching position."
Given the window of opportunity, the Trojans coaching staff will likely put on the full-court press to the offensive lineman that Scout.com lists as the No.1 overall offensive guard in the 2011 recruiting class.
Securing a commitment from Westerman would be a huge boon for the Trojans, who had the top offensive lineman recruit in the 2010 class, Seantrel Henderson, sign a letter of intent with the school, only to flee to Miami (Fl) following sanctions levied on USC by the NCAA.
With the loss of Henderson, graduating seniors Kristofer O'Dowd and Butch Lewis, and junior Tyron Smith, who has declared for the NFL draft, the Trojans are painfully thin along the offensive trenches and would benefit greatly from addition of Westerman.
