USC football: RB D.J. Morgan returns, impresses
Quick hitters from USC’s Tuesday practice:
** Tailback D.J. Morgan practiced and had several impressive runs after missing the latter portion of Saturday’s workout because of tendinitis in his surgically repaired right knee.
** De’Von Flournoy (hip) joined fellow receiver Robert Woods (hamstring) on the sideline, leaving the Trojans with only two available scholarship wideouts: senior Brandon Carswell and sophomore Markeith Ambles.
** Safety-turned-linebacker Dion Bailey missed practice after suffering nerve damage in his right forearm Saturday. Bailey, who had his arm in a sling, described himself as day to day.
** Linebacker Ross Cumming participated in full-contact work after missing time last week.
** Walk-on linebacker Will Andrew (Edison High) recorded an interception for the fourth consecutive practice. The victim was freshman quarterback Max Wittek, who threw a pair of picks after being the only QB without an interception entering this week.
** Continuing a camp-long theme, the defense generally got the better of the offense, including a goal-line stand late in practice.
** Coach Lane Kiffin said covering the field with a tarp overnight will be considered because so many players are slipping on the wet grass during the team’s morning workouts.
