Harbor City's Trio Commit to Division I Football
Narbonee High School seniors Tim Tucker, Josh Moten and Byron Moore have committed to play football at three major Division I universities.
"All of these three students are very well-liked young men," administrator and advisor Eric Magee said. "The administration has been very supportive of their efforts and all of them were at the ESPN signing."
Wide receiver and cornerback Byron Moore decided to finally commit to the University of Southern California despite temporarily decommiting after a visit to the University of Colorado and Notre Dame.
"It feels real good," Moore said. "All my hard work has paid off and I get to go to one of the best colleges in the country."
Quarterback Josh Moten committed to the University of Colorado, while linebacker Tim Tucker decided to become a Huskie at the University of Washington.
Moore originally committed to UCLA but that changed after meeting and getting to know USC coach Pete Carroll. "In June, I went to some of USCs practices and I changed my commitment," Moore said. "I've been talking to coach Carroll and we have a good connection; thats why I chose that school."
Having three seniors committing to D-I schools has been a significant turn around for Narbonne's football program, which for many years now has not had the national attention that other surroundng area schools have.
"The appeal of Narbonne football today is that you have a Gaucho Nation that through all the years of mediocrity, can now hold their heads up high because we have a premiere football program," Magee said. "Tim Tucker, Josh Moten, and Byron Moore are going to go down as student athletes who were at the cutting edge of Narbonne solidifying it's place as the premeire program in the area."
The event has brought Narbonne and the surrounding Harbor City/ Harbor Gateway and Lomita areas national attention.
"Sports, in particular football, can play an important roll at a high school and thus the community that high school serves," Magee said. "The goal is to continue to produce positive student athletes, and have Narbonne at the top in both academics and athletics."
